Back on the track (field)
I decided that it's time to update you guys on my recovery process. I started doing some more strenuous ankle mobility therapy around late August. It consisted of utilizing the BAPS board, doing some calf raises, cycling, and just trying to get back in running shape by slowly strengthening my leg and ankle again. By around October, I began jogging a lap or two around the track. Initially, my ankle was pretty stiff still, but I noticed a significant increase in my dorsiflexion compared to the beginning. When I felt more confident and comfortable with jogging, increased the length of my run to a mile. Then I slowly began running slightly faster. And now I'm doing some plyos, lifting, and running at 80-90% speed once in a while. Hopefully I've included the important details of my healing process. If I've left anything out, or you got any questions, comment on any posts or email me. Also, if you'd like to see the physical therapy exercises that my doctor had me doing, let me know and I can post videos of them on here.

Hi, I had os trigonum excision less than a week ago. I was wondering how the rest of your recovery went. Were you able to make it back to 100%, without any further problems? If so, how long did that take? Thanks so much, Mike
ReplyDeleteHi Michael, I was able to be back in competition, but I wouldn't say my ankle was 100% back to normal. Even to this day, it still gets stiff and the range of motion is not fully there yet. However, the most fully healed I ever got was probably after the one year mark post surgery. The only other complications I've had were soreness, weakness, tightness, and poor range of motion. Just make sure you follow up with rehab and ease back into exercising again.
